Spring is Sprung

October 5, 2016 by AcresAdmin

Time for collecting the ultimate compost ingredient before the dung beetles and birds steal the booty. Compost making and maintenance so the summer workload is lessened.
Picking snow peas, the occasional artichoke, lettuce, strawberries, kale, silverbeet, chokos and beetroot.
Planting; tomatoes, corn, turmeric, pumpkins, cucumber, zucchini, salad goodies and carrots.
Life is good!

Summer is in decline. Time to take advantage of the cooler weather and prepare the beds for the Autumnal plantings. Mulch is still being collected from the recent cut, and being stock-piled for winter compost making and garden bed covering. Zucchinis and tomatoes are coming to an end and will be replanted, as will corn and cucumbers.

New plantings will be of silver beet, broccoli, roquet, lettuce and other greens that struggle through the hotter times. It is a beautiful and easier time of year coming up, with less emphasis on just maintaining things through the heat.
